@U2 QOM November 2011: Making Movies!

Bookmark and Share
Imagine a universe in which Larry, Adam, Edge and Bono all became film actors instead of musicians. What kind of movies would each of them make?

(Each month, @U2 puts a spotlight on U2 fans with our "Question of the Month." We pose a question to our readers and invite answers of 200 words or less. If you're interested in taking part, check our home page to see if the current question is still open. If not, check back shortly after the beginning of next month and we'll have another question ready to be answered!)

@U2 Question of the Month

 Katrina Carmichael: Bono would definitely be good in a comedy, he has a great sense of humor. Would love to see him in a romantic comedy. (I would have to co-star with him, lol.) The Edge would be in a horror flick, playing the crazed psycho killer. (All acting of course, I love the Edge and don't think of him as such.) Larry would play the part of a criminal in an action movie, the bad guy the cops are after. Going around on a crime spree and never being caught! Adam would be in a drama, playing a lady's man caught up in a love triangle, a very sad tearjerker -- your basic chick flick. And they would all be up against each other at the Oscars!

Randy Klobetanz: Larry would star in silent films.   Adam would be the bartender in Western films.   The Edge would be the mad scientist in sci-fi movies.   Bono would star in kids’ animation movies.

Tito Sanchez: I would assume in that same universe, there would be a band where Johnny Depp played guitar, Leonardo DiCaprio played drums, Matt Damon on bass and Brad Pitt on vocals.   In that case, we would have seen The Edge as Edward Scissorhands and Donnie Brasco, Larry Mullen Jr. in Titanic and Blood Diamond, Adam Clayton would be Jason Bourne and we would see Bono carve a swastika in some Nazi’s forehead.

Susan Williams: Bono -- Weird, off-the-wall independent films that probably lost more money than they made, but were critical, if not box office, successes.   Edge -- Biographies of famous scientists/explorers, such as "Leonardo da Vinci, Man and Myth."   Adam -- Remakes of "The Thin Man" films! (Though a close second would be soft-core porn, whee!)   Larry --A series of Mountie films based on the writings of James Oliver Curwood.

Kris Payne: This one is a no-brainer and has been addressed in U2 concerts: Larry: Tough guy films -- think Dirty Harry. (Totally picture Larry delivering this line: "I know what you're thinking. Did he fire six shots, or only five? Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?") Adam: The romantic-rogue lead -- Clark Gable-esque ("Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn"). We'd also accept Adam as James Bond. The Edge: Techie or Mad Scientist - "Look! It's moving. It's alive. It's alive. .. It's alive, it's moving, it's alive, it's alive, it's alive, it's alive, IT'S ALIVE." Bono: Anything Tim Burton-style (I'm thinking he'd be perfect as Abe for the upcoming Abraham Lincoln --Vampire Killer) or comic book villain from Batman.

Brandon Roy: Edge - Kung-Fu movies. Adam -- spy movies. Larry -- hardcore shoot-'em-up movies. Bono -- Chick flicks.

Elsa Stockseth: I think that Larry would be like the biker bad boy that all the girls love. Adam would be like the lawyer super-sophisticated guy. Edge would be the super-smart doctor or scientist. Bono would definitely have to be the regular guy who has superpowers and is the hero, always showing up at exactly the right moment to rescue the people in need.

Janet Pinter: Edge: Leading Man; SciFi. Bono: Musical Theatre; Comedy/Tragedy. Adam: Comedic Cinema, Straight Guy. Larry: Dramatic Cinema, few lines.

Maryann Green: Edge would make science documentaries of course. Larry would make low-budget art-house movies in which he always plays the quiet stoic one. Bono would make outlandish "concept" movies that are totally artistic and amazing but only appeal to a narrow population. Adam? I'm just gonna keep my mouth shut on that one. ;-)
