Steve Lillywhite Confirms He’s Not Working On New U2 Album

In a Twitter exchange with @U2's Tassoula Kokkoris last night, Steve Lillywhite confirmed that he is not helping with production on the new U2 album at present time.

After tweeting about having lunch with Bono, Kokkoris asked him if he was approached to work on the new songs. He responded no, but followed that up with the phrase "all good."

This confirmation adds to fans' speculation that the album is nearing completion.

If the band doesn't solicit Lillywhite's help before the album's release, it will be the first U2 record without his involvement since the band's inception, according to a statement he made in an interview with Kokkoris earlier this year:

I have an even more broad job with them now. They haven't asked me to start an album since 1983 -- since War, but I've been involved with all of them. They bring me in towards the end to help close them. I think that when they see me walk into the studio they revert back to the first time they saw me, where it's like, "Oh my God, here's Steve, we better knuckle down because we're students and we have to finish our record now."
