Rumors have been circulating for a couple months that U2 would perform in December, but a spokesperson for the band tells us that's not the case. Organizers of the "New Dawn for Humanity" event reportedly invited U2 to perform at the event, which is timed to coincide with the so-called Mayan apocalypse date, December 21st.
An article that appeared last week on LiveScience and MSNBC went so far as to say that U2 is confirmed to perform at the event. The band's spokesperson says that's not the case:
"No truth to this, the band are not performing in Guatemala."
The idea was far-fetched all along, and now we can say wtih certainty that it's not going to happen.
