It's hard to believe that it's the middle of September already! I'm sure many of us are well into our autumn traditions, like breaking out our sweaters, drinking pumpkin spice lattes or picking apples. Apples might be the only things we're collecting though, as a new U2 album isn't ripe yet.
It looks like 2014 is when we'll have our eagerly awaited release from U2. If you had asked me months ago about waiting until next year for a new U2 record, I would have probably gone on some insane fangirl rant about waiting long enough for it already! But I'm actually okay at this moment with waiting until next year. I know they want to put a lot of heart into this album and I don't want them to rush it because they feel that they have to.
I'm also one of those weird fans that devotes a lot of time to an artist's new material, if that makes any sense. For example, last September three of my favorite artists released new albums (Pink, The Killers and No Doubt). I remember spending two weeks on each album just so I could absorb the songs and lyrics. And I still felt like it took me forever to really dive deep into the material! In November, one of my absolute favorite artists, Lady Gaga, is releasing her anticipated album ARTPOP. I fully plan on keeping that album on repeat for a solid month, maybe longer. So for me it's a good thing that U2 are waiting until next year. Because I definitely want to reserve precious time to fully appreciate the new music they are gifting us with.
I have this crazy obsession with the online webstore, Etsy. I love the idea of people selling their own custom clothing, jewelry and artwork. I've often found the coolest and unique stuff for birthday gifts and even for myself.
There is a store on the site called LyricalArtworks, which has some pretty awesome designs that revolve around song lyrics. All of the U2 ones can be viewed here. I'm totally getting the "Beautiful Day" one, for sure!
Speaking of obsessions, I present to you this mashup of "With or Without You" and Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know." Watch. Repeat.
Back in June, I wrote a Like a Song piece about how "City of Blinding Lights" related to my love for New York City. I mentioned my "New York dreams" of working in the city and being able to enjoy its beauty as I lived the life I envisioned because of the song. I'm very happy to report that this summer I was offered a job in NYC! It's at a popular dessert shop (besides being a full-time U2 fan, I also decorate cakes for a living). I started last week and so far it has been an incredible learning experience and I'm thrilled to see where it will take me. I thought I would mention it here because I talked in the essay about COBL making me constantly think about my goals and hoping they would become reality the more that I thought about them. Luckily for me, one of my city dreams came true. Blessings are indeed not just for the ones who kneel.
