So ... anybody waiting for some U2 album news? Or even a single?
Yeah. Us, too.
Last week, we were making out the writing schedule for August, sorting out who would be handling each of our regular features (OTRs, Like A Song, Like A Video, U2 Lists) and as the crew was claiming each week's OTR column, I started wondering who would be the lucky one to do the first OTR after a new single and/or album is announced. Cuz you know that is gonna be a fun week to have the open canvas that OTR is, right?
And then I thought ... what if there's no announcement at all in August? Quelle horreur!
From a business/publicity angle, at least here in the U.S., you'd want to wait until after our Labor Day holiday on September 2nd. That's when everyone's back at work, kids are back in school, vacations are over, and the end of year news cycle really starts to pick up.
And then I thought ... you know, what? I ain't gettin' any younger, so why waste time worrying about when (if?) U2 is gonna do some announcement for some album or single that they don't seem all too interested in talking about at this point? If they're lost in it and not ready to come out of hibernation, I'll get lost in something else. (Like The Boxer Rebellion, natch.)
Here's something you can get lost in: eight minutes of awesome from our resident artist, Kelly Eddington. You may know that she's an in-demand artist in real life (i.e., beyond her contributions here for @U2) and she recently started making videos showing the "how" of her amazing watercolor skills.
The latest how-to video was posted today (Sunday), and features a familiar face that @U2 readers will recognize quickly, especially since the video preview gives it away! But watch anyway, because the whole video is that good and it's always a treat to watch the super-talented do what they do. (Plus, in typical Kelly style, she drops a few comedic one-liners about the subject of her painting.)
I don't know if that exact piece is going to be part of the next Achtoon Baby, but Kelly tells me she is working on it and ... coincidentally ... it's about that same "we're lost in the music" comment that I mentioned above.
U2 somehow placed 11th (eleventh!) in a recent Rolling Stone list of the 50 Greatest Live Acts Now. Fans in our forum are mostly not in agreement with that ranking. (Kinda like how I'm mostly not in agreement with the fact that Nikki and Stacey were eliminated from Next Food Network Star these past two weeks. What a joke.)
And finally, did you see this tweet?
I'm going to be seeing Spider-Man again later this year (my third time), but it'll be after that September 15th date, which is kinda sad. Reeve C. was really good in that role. But hey, if you want to get lost in something and you have mad acting and singing skills, you can try-out for his job. Auditions start next week.
See you next month!
